Christmas Cheer: a platform built for a nonprofit that owns it outright

Onslow Community Outreach is a North Carolina nonprofit that runs the Christmas Cheer program for families each season. I am building the platform that runs it for 2026, from an empty codebase, on a fixed-price contract through Mythic Works LLC.

The situation

The Christmas Cheer program needed its platform for the 2026 season, built in time for families to use it at the Christmas Cheer Center, and owned by the nonprofit rather than by whoever built it.

What I am building

  • Client entry screens that families use at the Christmas Cheer Center, with an assistant beside them, to confirm their household and answer their own application questions.
  • Sign-in with passkeys, authenticator apps, or a code sent to the family's phone, through Better Auth.
  • The whole platform from an empty codebase: TypeScript, Next.js and React, with PostgreSQL on Neon, hosted on Vercel.

What they own

I set up a GitHub organization in the nonprofit's own name, so it owns its code with no shared login. The GitHub, Vercel and Neon configuration is managed as Terraform, so the setup is written down rather than remembered.

That is the point of the seat: when I leave, nothing is left that only I can run.

Where it stands

In progress. Production is targeted for late October 2026, ahead of the season. This record will be updated when it ships.
